One great aspect of living at East of Market is that this community is close and convenient to Downtown Frederick! Residents are only a short drive, bike ride, or walk to the numerous restaurants, shops, and events in Downtown. In the middle of Downtown Frederick, right next to Carroll Creek, is the downtown branch of the Frederick County Public Libraries system, the C. Burr Artz Public Library.
With fall around the corner and cold weather only a few weeks away, nothing is better than curling up with a good book (or several good books) to pass the time. Alongside the books, below are several other great library features patrons can enjoy at the C. Burr Artz Public Library:
- The Maryland Room: According to the Frederick County Public Library website, “The Maryland Room… is a noncirculating, local history research collection of primary and secondary sources. Materials actively collected document Maryland’s economic, social, political, cultural, and religious history, the genealogy of Maryland’s peoples, and the Civil War.”
- Dragon Bags: The Dragon Bags program is a free book loan initiative offered by Frederick County Public Libraries. In this program, patrons can pick up a Dragon Bag at participating libraries. Each bag contains 10 books with a specified age group, interest, and/ or focus. Even patrons without library cards can participate in the Dragon Bag program.
- STEM Lab: On the second floor of the C. Burr Artz Public Library is the STEM Lab, which houses activities and events for students of any grade level. The STEM Lab contains resources such as iPad minis, a 3D printer, and sensory bins. This weekend, during In The Street, the library STEM Lab is the location of the Robot Races. Check the Frederick County Public Libraries website to keep up with all STEM Lab events.
In addition to the above programs and labs, the library offers numerous other resources to patrons such as meeting and study rooms, passport services, and wireless internet and printing.
