East of Market New Phase

Grady Management is pleased to announce a 49-unit expansion at East of Market Apartments in Frederick, MD.  The expansion project achieved its LEED for Home GOLD certification and builds on the already successful East of Market Apartments carbon footprint. The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Designs (LEED) certification program from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) recognizes “best-in-class” building strategies that avoid toxic chemicals, reduce material waste and lower energy and water use. Developer and Owner, The Duffie Companies have committed to green building practices while focusing on durability and performance. The project was completed in January 2021 and will bring the total number of luxury apartments to 209.

East of Market Apartments is the first LEED Home GOLD and ENERGY STAR apartments in Frederick, MD. Welcome to 2021!

Last year has been such a rollercoaster with the devastating impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the Matador team- 2020 was the year we fell in love with domestic travel again, and we’re carrying that passion for safely exploring our own backyard into the new year.

They have listed our very own Frederick, Maryland as one of the top 25 coolest towns in America to visit in 2021!

Forget about DC — Maryland is the culinary epicenter of the Mid-Atlantic, and nowhere is that truer on a small-city level than Frederick. Frederick attracts visitors with its colorful downtown, Civil War history, access to the Catoctin Mountains, and art scene, but it’s the food and drink culture that makes this town worthy of more than just a quick day trip.

The 50-block historic district is where you’ll want to start. It’s home to colorful buildings, local boutiques, museums, and some of the region’s best restaurants and breweries. If you’re ready to dive right in and indulge, check out the new Thatcher & Rye from Top Chef All-Star Bryan Voltaggio (which recently replaced his flagship restaurant, VOLT). For a slightly more relaxed environment, the Family Meal diner is located in a former car dealership on the outskirts of downtown, giving you a contemporary take on the classic diner concept.

Frederick is equally enthusiastic about drinking. Virtual Learning 2020-2021!

Frederick County Public Schools welcomes you all to the 2020-2021 school year!

Due to the current global pandemic the Board of Education has decided to open the 2020-2021 school year in a virtual only model. A sample schedule can be found here.

Here are some helpful tips that will get you ready for virtual learning this year!

KEEP A ROUTINE

First and foremost, keeping a routine is key for virtual learning. Since students are in their home environment, it can be difficult to feel focused. Have students prepare as if they are truly going to school — get up, put on an outfit, and eat breakfast. Then, they’ll be ready to learn virtually with their teachers! Although it isn’t the same as hopping on the school bus and stepping into the classroom, keeping a routine will keep them in the school mindset.

PICK A GOOD PLACE TO LEARN

Although most homes aren’t equipped to turn into classrooms, it’s important to make sure that the learning environment is geared to the success of your student! There are a few factors to consider when figuring out where they will be doing virtual school. If they’re in a place that is too isolated, they may not pay much attention since no one is watching them. Perhaps set up a place in the kitchen, but be conscious of their space throughout the day to limit distractions. Of course, you can ask them what space they prefer as well!

GATHER SCHOOL SUPPLIES

Although students will be doing schoolwork at home, they still need to be equipped with the right school supplies to succeed! Hopefully, teachers will provide students with a list of supplies they need. For notebooks, pencils, and more, look at places like Walmart, Dollar Tree, or Staples for low-cost supplies.

MAINTAIN SOCIAL INTERACTION (TO AN EXTENT)

A concern of many parents is how schooling from home will impact the mental health of children. Without the social interaction they receive from their classmates, it can take a toll on kids. If you’re comfortable, a great way to maintain social interaction is to have one or two friends who your child can “go to school with,” called a pod. This can allow for a simulated classroom setting if the students are in the same class. Group schooling is becoming a popular option for parents as it will allow kids to be around at least one other person for social purposes, while still following CDC guidelines.

HIRE A TUTOR

Another concern regarding schooling is that parents may have to go to work during the day and can’t help their children navigate online schooling. If parents are comfortable, hiring a person to guide your child throughout the school day is an option. Since teachers are guiding the class throughout the day, the “tutor” would ensure that students are on top of their work and logging online when they are supposed to for class. This could even just be in the form of a nanny, as it may just be helpful for students to have some guidance while parents are at work.

Although COVID-19 has completely transformed our lives, we are all in this together. Now, it’s important to provide our students with the tools that they need to succeed while doing school online. These tips for the upcoming school year will allow parents and students to feel prepared in tackling online schooling!

The LEED Gold Certified East of Market Apartments is proud to announce that we have been awarded a Maryland Energy Administration Grant.  We are now fully equipped with an amazing fifty (50) brand new LEVEL 2 EV charging stations.

Residents of East of Market will now be able to participate in the EV revolution!

The adoption rate of electric vehicles is expected to skyrocket in the coming years.  While, this trend will be unreachable to most apartment dwellers, the residents of East of Market are now ready to go!

Our new equipment from ClipperCreek® (Model: LCS-30P) will connect with every electric vehicle sold in North America (vehicles from certain manufacturers like Tesla will require a simple adapter).
