Oscar’s Alehouse Visits East of Market: Our new neighbors, Oscar’s Alehouse, visited East of Market several times in 2018. Thank you to the Oscar’s Alehouse team for hosting several wonderful resident events this year. Residents and team members alike had a great time!
East of Market’s Annual Summer Barbecue: A summer staple at this Frederick, Maryland apartment community is our annual barbecue. The team always hosts this event at our Grilling Station adjacent to the Community Clubhouse. Thank you to Kona Ice for making the event a hit this year! And thank you to all of our residents who attended.
Pet of the Month Contest: This year, the East of Market team began a Pet of the Month contest to honor and recognize our four legged residents. This pet friendly community is home to so many wonderful cats and dogs! Thanks to everyone who submitted their pet to be featured. East of Market wins a PMA PACE Award: East of Market Apartments won a Judge’s Choice Award for our community’s rent category during the 2018 Property Management Association‘s PACE Awards Ceremony. East of Market was one of less than 35 apartment communities that received a Judge’s Choice Award while 215 total apartment communities competed in this year’s PACE program.

Retro Metro: A gift shop located in the heart of Downtown Frederick, Retro Metro has such a wide variety of products that it would be easy to do most, if not all, holiday shopping at that one store. Curious Iguana: Opened in 2013, Curious Iguana is a bookstore that features a wide variety of books and book related memorabilia. Books can be ordered from the Curious Iguana website, but the team in the bookstore is always happy to help find books in the store for patrons. For any bookworms in your life, Curious Iguana is a must for holiday shopping. Gift cards are also available for the store, in the event that it is hard to decide between the many books available. Dancing Bear Toys and Gifts: This toy shop is the “sister” store of Curious Iguana. Dancing Bear originally opened in 2000 and remains a Downtown Frederick staple. For those looking for toys and/ or gifts for children this holiday season, Dancing Bear needs to be a destination on the shopping list. This store features toys and games that do not utilize batteries. The focus of the store is “unplugged” play, so think of board games, puzzles, puppets, and more. Brainstorm Comics and Gaming: For those looking for comic books, graphic novels, and/ or table top games to gift this holiday season, this store is the place to shop! Located next to the C. Record Exchange: As its name would suggest, the Record Exchange features records! The shop is always well organized and records are divided by music genre. Discover Delicious Apple Cider and More At This Local Cidery
Looking for plans during the remainder of this fall season? Check out Distillery Lane Ciderworks in Jefferson, Maryland. A 20 minute drive from this community, the orchard and cidery encompasses more than three thousand apple trees across nine acres of farmland. Visit Distillery Lane Ciderworks to enjoy:
Visitors can sample different ciders in the Distillery Lane Ciderworks Tasting Room which is situated adjacent to the acres of apple trees. The Tasting Room is open Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 5 pm. The ciders rotate seasonally, so even previous visitors to Distillery Lane Ciderworks can visit again and enjoy new, delicious cider samples.
The Classes and Workshops
The Distillery Lane Ciderworks team also offers cider making classes and workshops about apples, cider, and more. Some of these classes and workshops are hosted onsite, while others occur at participating farms in the local area. Contact Distillery Lane Ciderworks to learn the next class and workshop offerings. The event spotlights the “region’s most outstanding apartment communities,” according to the official PMA’s website. East of Market was one of less than 35 apartment communities that received a Judge’s Choice Award while 215 total apartment communities competed in this year’s PACE program.

Frederick, Maryland is a great city to enjoy Halloween festivities and autumnal events. Downtown Frederick, in particular, is home to both fall beauty, with abundant fall foliage, and numerous historical sites that are places of local legend, allure, and “spoopy” fun.
Below are three “spoopy” events taking place in Frederick this month that the East of Market team hopes our residents can enjoy:
1) Murder and Mayhem Walking Tour: This tour, organized by The Museum of Frederick County History, begins on East Church Street and details some “scandalous” moments in Downtown Frederick’s history. This tour will take place on Saturday, October 27. Learn more online:
2) Ghost Tours of Historic Frederick: These tours are annual events and a Frederick, Maryland staple. This experience provides attendees with a glimpse into stories and accounts of paranormal happenings in Frederick. The Ghost Tours take place multiple evenings during October.
